Miss Galaxy Universe saw huge success as it launched at the NEC the weekend of the 12^th May 2012.

Europes 1^st and only all-female Fitness & Beauty show had a total of 45 competitors in classes such as Beach Body, Fitness Model and Yummy Mummy and Fitness Champion. This was also the first time that age categories had been introduced in UK classes, as previously height classes had dominated. Galaxy showcases its competitors as athletes as well as beautiful women and with the introduction of fitness tests, the media interest in this show has been bigger than any other.

Miss Galaxy Universe saw huge success as it launched at the NEC the weekend of the 12 th May 2012. Europes 1 st and only all-female Fitness & Beauty show had a total of 45 competitors in classes such as Beach Body, Fitness Model and Yummy Mummy and Fitness Champion. This was also the first time that age categories had been introduced in UK classes, as previously height classes had dominated. Galaxy showcases its competitors as athletes as well as beautiful women and with the introduction of fitness tests, the media interest in this show has been bigger than any other. Miss Galaxy Universe ‘The World Championships’ takes place on the 21 st October 2012 and sees a new age class of 45 and up, which makes 3 classes, including 18 to 35, and 36 to 44. The founder Sarah Donohue says, " Most women that compete care little for height categories and as this isn´t a bodybuilding show, height categories are not important, but women are very concious of their age and someone of 48 would sooner be in a class of women her own age than with someone of 18 years old. So Galaxy works around ‘what women want’. We also run training camps for fitness and for stage presentation/posing which are due to start in June and will run all the way up to the show. These camps prepare everyone for what is to come. No one else offers this service. These camps are for newcomers and for the girls that have been doing stage shows for years, because we cover everything and everything is beneficial to everyone, we really are working towards making sure all women of all ages are comfortable .’ The Miss Galaxy Universe ‘Supreme Champion 2012’ was snatched up by 27yr old Emma Louise Burrows and the ‘Overall Fitness Champion’ by 37yr old Julia Hubbard. Interviews with both Emma and Julia are below and for more information, please visit www.missgalaxyuniverse.com Meet Emma Louise Burrows, 27 How long have you been competing and why did you start? I have been competing for 1 year and I started because I needed a focus to throw myself into, to get over a break up. I was heart-broken and things could have gone very badly but competing saved me. If you are going to compete, it becomes your life, you don't have time to think about anything else or dwell on the negative. You need focus, drive, self belief and positivity. What made you try a different type of competition which incorporated a fitness element? When the founder of Miss Galaxy Universe, Sarah Donohue, explained the concept of this new amazing competition to me, I was thrilled and automatically wanted to be a part of it. The fitness challenges allow you to display your physical strength and fitness levels off the stage in some serious fitness tests as well as enjoying the adrenalin of showing what you have worked for on stage too. A lot of people who have no idea what fitness competing is all about can frown upon it at times, as they don't understand the work that goes into getting your body to the point where you are ready to get on stage and score highly with the judges. The fitness challenges add the extra component which proves just how fit we all are. It is not just about what you look like. How does a show like Galaxy Universe benefit women which other shows may not? Miss Galaxy Universe celebrates both inner and outer strength and beauty of females and I am hugely passionate about that ethos. Taking part in Galaxy is like going on a journey. No matter who you are or what you are searching for, Galaxy can take you there. Anyone that attended the competition or watched the DVD will tell you that women of all shapes, sizes, ages and personalities took part. Each aspiring to reach a different goal. Most competitors attend the Galaxy training camps every month and not only does this provide you with the best preparation for the competition but most importantly it develops a feeling of team work and creates amazing friendships. Yes we all want to win and yes we all train to win but we respect that in each other and care for and encourage one another along the way. Nobody is perfect and we all have our strengths and weaknesses and the Galaxy sisterhood which has developed along the way, allows you to learn from one another. What inspires you to keep fit and help others? I love to have a goal to work towards. Achieving something that you have had to work for, stay mentally and physically strong for and make sacrifices for is a hugely rewarding feeling. As a personal trainer, that passion extends to helping my clients achieve their goals too. My inspiration comes from fellow competitors, my clients, family, friends, those worse off than me.....everywhere really. Fitness is my thing and I live, eat and breathe it. If my achievements and passion for what I do encourages others to keep fit and healthy then that is an achievement in itself. How many times a week do you train? I train 6 days a week and my regime varies dependant on what I am working towards. What are the key elements to a healthy diet for you? Every individual is different and reacts differently to certain diets. But key for all of us to remember is that food which has NOT been processed will contain the most nutritional value. We must try to take in foods in the way mother nature intended. The most important foods to avoid are those that are high in sugar, additives or trans fats. Keep it balanced and drink plenty of water. What are your goals for the future? I have two very different dreams and either one coming true would be simply amazing. I would like to run a chain of personal training studios for women, which train women in the way I believe is best for sculpting their bodies into their dream shape. I must admit the other dream is a tad indulgent.....I would love to make it in the states as a fitness competitor / model. Will you be competing in the next Miss Galaxy Universe? The next Miss Galaxy Universe show is in October and will no doubt be just as big a success if not more. Sarah Donohue is going to drive this new concept forward to achieve masses within the industry, I have no doubt about it. However, I have plenty planned for the year ahead and will not be competing in the next show. I will be cheering on my Galaxy sisters though and hope to attend as a supporter. Tell us about Miami... I am going to compete in Musclemania Fitness Universe in June, which is a worldwide competition and I will be representing Musclemania Britain out there. I am super excited and have received so much support from the Galaxy team in the lead up. I hope to make them proud! Meet Julia Hubbard, Age 36 How long have you been competing in athletics and why the transition to stage shows? I did athletics at school and university, at good club standard. I then gave up competing whilest persuling my career in Fitness Management, Personal Training and Sales. I then tried out for the Bobsleigh Team in 2006 and competed internnationally for 3 years. When I retired from Bobsleigh I decided to try Figure competitions, as I needed a new goal. A year later I turned 36 and realised I was eligable to compete in Masters Athletics so I decided to try and combine both! What made you try a different type of competition which incorporated a fitness element, especially a new one like Miss Galaxy Universe? I absolutely love the concept of combining Figure competitions with Fitness Tests.... being scored for your aesthetic athleticism and proving just what you can do with your physique really appeals to me. I love competing and setting phhysical challenges, so Galaxy looked right up my street! How does a show like Galaxy Universe benefit women which other shows may not? Galaxy is not just a competition, its an empowering, supportive network of women, who compete, but also support each other through the process leading to the competition. Helping each other keep on track, whatever their level of experience or training background. What inspires you to keep fit? Predominantly I train and eat right to stay healthy, but im ultra competative and enjoy the challeneg. I have to have giaks to aim for! How many times a week do you train? 6 days a week, I train twice a day in the last few weeks before a competition, to stoke my metabolism! What are the key elements to a healthy diet for you? I´m vegetarian, so combining a variety of foods to ensure I get the right amount of protein is important. I also believe its important to have lots of veggies and fruit and follow a fairly alkaline diet. When I´m dieting I have a 'treat day' once a week where I have some of the foods I´ve been craving during the week! Helps me stay sane, but is also important to stop the body recognising its on a diet. I eat healthily all year round, but when I´m not competing I´m a bit more relaxed about it! What are your goals for the future? I am hoping to travel to Brazil to attempt to retain my world 200m W35 world title. I would like to qualify to compete internationally in Figure competitions and I want to improve my scores to aim for the Miss Galaxy Universe Overall Supreme Champion! Will you be competing in the next Miss Galaxy Universe? Yes, I won the Fitness tests in the inaugoral Galaxy, but I have unfinished business.... I want to try and work on improvements for the Fitness Model Category, improve my fitness to retain the Fitness Champion title to give myself a stab at the supreme champion! Can anyone compete in Miss Galaxy Universe? Yes! The Fitness Tests are tough but everyone can join the camps, beginners can learn the skills and work on beating their personal bests, the standard is high so the fitter girls still have to work hard to place! The stage categories have something for everyone too, with beach body and fitness model, yummy mummy and newcomers have their own category too.
